Just a few of the books we have read and enjoyed on our Presto journey. E-mail us with your book suggestions. Please click on the image of the book for a link to a site where it can be ordered.
The Commodore's Story:The Early Days on Biscayne Bay by Commodore Ralph Munroe and Vincent Gilpin. Commodore Munroe is the designer of the original Presto and the book offers an extensive look at the early days of Biscayne Bay and the development of the sharpie design. A short chapter is dedicated to the Presto.
The Good Little Ship by Vincent Gilpin (co-author of The Commodore's Story). This book describes an ideal shoal draft ketch based on Munroe's Presto and includes lines by R. P. Beebe.

Beachcruising and Coastal Camping by Ida Little and Michael Walsh. This book describes beach cruising thus: “Beach cruising compares favorably to all other modes of travel we’ve tried… We pulled our boat ashore without regard for tourist amenities or safe anchorages…we entered into local life as part of that life. We didn’t just pass through. We… come to live, learn, and enjoy familiarity with the people and their culture."

Drawing on food traditions and cuisines from Downeast and around the world, Maine Mapmaker's Kitchen speaks to creative cooks, home gardeners, and anyone who enjoys eating well at home, camp, and on waterborne adventures. Jane Crosen is an accomplished mapmaker and Richard Washburn a skilled boatbuilder.
